Supported mining operations by constructing a dedicated hydro-fracturing pad and upgrading access roads for heavy equipment. Hydro-fracturing (hydrofracking) is used to pre-condition rock in block cave mining, and our work ensured the necessary surface facilities were in place for this process. We delivered a durable work platform and reliable road connectivity under tight time constraints, achieving all project goals. The works included:

  • Drilling Pad Construction: Earthworks to clear and level the pad site, followed by installation of engineered fill. The pad was compacted and proof-rolled to create a high-strength surface capable of supporting large drill rigs and high-pressure pump units. A layer of crushed rock was placed on top for all-weather durability. Over 100,000m³ was moved with a maximum cut and fill depth of 26 meters.


  • Road Widening & Reinforcement: Upgrades to existing mine access roads leading to the pad, including widening narrow sections and improving vertical alignments for safe transport of oversize equipment. The road base was strengthened and finished with gravel to handle frequent heavy truck traffic.


  • Drainage Improvements: Integration of new culverts and side drains along the roads to prevent water pooling and erosion, and construction of contour drains around the pad to divert runoff away from the work area.


  • Safety & Compliance: Implementation of safety berms, signage, and delineation on the upgraded roads, and ensuring the pad had adequate bunding and separation from surrounding areas to contain any operational spillage.


  • Collaboration: Working closely with engineers and drilling contractors to meet precise location and elevation requirements for the pad and completing works on schedule to align with the planned start of hydro-fracturing operations.

Our delivery of the hydro-fracturing pad and associated road upgrades enabled efficient rock pre-conditioning, with confidence that the civil infrastructure would perform under the demands of this specialised mining process.
